The Codington County Historical Society is excited to announce a new initiative set to launch in the spring of 2025: The Art Alley Gallery.
This unique gallery will provide a space for local artists of all ages and backgrounds to showcase their creativity in a charming outdoor setting located in the alley behind the museum.
Each season of the gallery will revolve around a theme, allowing artists to explore and interpret the topic in innovative ways.
For the inaugural year, the chosen theme is "Imagine," inviting participants to delve into their imagination and express their visions through art. Selected artwork will be prominently displayed in the alley from Memorial Day to Labor Day, in an outdoor exhibition for visitors throughout the summer months.
In addition to exhibiting their artwork, artists will have the opportunity to create a short video that articulates their artistic statement and insights about their chosen piece.
A committee will review all submissions and select artworks based on creativity, relevance to the theme, and overall artistic quality. Interested artists are encouraged to submit their ideas and creations by the deadline of April 1, to ensure their work is considered for this exhibition. This project not only aims to celebrate local talent but also to foster a sense of community through art.
The artwork you submit will be displayed outdoors during the summer season. It will be securely attached to the museum building but will be exposed to the elements.
If your artwork cannot withstand outdoor conditions, please let us know if you would prefer to display a print instead.
Additionally, you have the option to create artwork on plywood that can be directly mounted to the building, using materials that will endure the weather.
